The Idea

Have you heard of the #75hard challenge to better yourself? I heard of it from a friend, Jaime Quickert, but it originally came from an Andy Frisella podcast. The challenge is:

  1. Follow a diet with no cheat meals – No specific diet just choose one that fits your lifestyle
  2. Workout 2x a day for at least 45 minutes – 1 of the workouts has to be outdoors(no excuses)
  3. Drink a gallon of water a day
  4. Read 10 pages of non-fiction entrepreneurship/personal development/spiritual growth book per day
  5. Take a progress pic daily
  6. Also, no alcohol

I love the idea of a challenge to better yourself. Too often I make excuses or tell myself, “it’s my cheat meal – day – week – ” But I am competitive and love contests and challenges. However, I am going to modify mine a bit and call it 5 for 75.

The Modification

Why the modification? Well # 1. Going from 10 minutes to 90 minutes a day of exercise when I am so out of shape would be a deal breaker. #2. I already drink the gallon of water and read the 10 pages a day. #3. I don’t drink alcohol anyway. So here is my own 5 for 75 Challenge.

  1. Follow a diet with no cheat days.
    • I will be doing Trim Healthy Mama.
    • I will be especially avoiding sugar and white flour.
  2. Workout for at least 30 minutes a day, some of it outside.
    • I will probably be breaking it down to yoga in the morning and evening and a walk over my lunch break.
    • Since I currently exercise for about 10 minutes a day, this will triple my active time.
    • As I get in better shape I can add in more activity.
  3. Pick the biggest habit that will help your health. For you it may be drinking that gallon of water.
    • For me, I will be using my CPAP.
    • I have several health issues that are complicated by my sleep apnea and I have gotten lazy about using my machine. I will take this challenge to get back in the habit and hope that this will bring some relief of my other conditions.
  4. Do something for 10 minutes that will help you improve yourself.
    • You could pick reading, learning a language, working on handwriting, or anything that you want to improve on.
    • One of my big goals involves my writing and I need to be consistent!
    • I will be writing at least 10 minutes per day.
  5. Take a progress pic daily.

Just Start

I am going to officially start the challenge on May 22. This will put my completion date at August 4. In order to prepare I have already started the diet changes, am doing a bit of walking, and have cleaned up my CPAP. I will be posting progress photos on my Facebook page so you can help keep me accountable.

What will you be doing this summer to improve your health? Here’s to a better, healthier you (and me). #5for75.
